Clifford William Dean, 91, of Tilden, IL; born on May 2, 1932 in Marissa, IL, the son of Clarence and Bessie (Williams) Dean; passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at the Alhambra Rehabilitation and Heath Care Center in Alhambra, IL.

Clifford was a graduate of Marissa High School.  He then served in the United States Army at Fort Knox, KY from mid-November of 1952 until mid-November of 1954.  Clifford was a member of the Sparta American Legion Post 396.  He was an Illinois State Trooper with the Illinois State Police from 1957 until he retired in 1984.  During his time with the State Police, he resided in Vandalia, IL and reported to the District Office in Effingham, IL.  After retiring, Clifford and his wife moved to Tilden, IL.  He was a member of the Tilden First Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Police Troopers Lodge 41, and Retired State Police Association of Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife – Rose Marie (Brumley) Dean; son – Dennis Dean; parents; five siblings – Mildred Rogers, LeRoy Dean, Ruby Dean, Cecil Dean, and Eldridge Dean.

Clifford is survived by his special friend – Jane Stafford; three granddaughters – Ann Marie (Richard) Gates, Jayci (Caleb) Barnett and Lenzi Dean; six great grandchildren – Emily (Morse) Hames, Zac (Katelyn) Gates, Kaylie Gates, Deegan Smith, Joshua Barnett, and Addilyn Swafford; eight great great grandchildren; sister-in-law – Myrtle Dean; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Salvation Army or Tilden Baptist Church.

The Visitation will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Tilden, IL on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Memorial Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Hahn officiating. Private Interment will take place at Tilden Cemetery.
