Mr. Cleon Wilson, 92, of New Athens, IL, born April 27, 1920 in New Athens, IL died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL Cleon proudly and honorably served his country in the US Army during World War 2. He was a retired coal miner, a member of VFW Post 7710 in New Athens, The New Athens Historical Society, The New Athens Senior Citizens Club and the United Mine Workers of America.

He was preceded in death by his wife Erbyl (Wilderman) Wilson whom he married on March 24, 1956 in Hernando, Miss, and who died May 18, 2007; his parents; Richard J and Mary L. (Favre) Wilson; 3 children; Curtiss Brown, Richard Brown and Lorraine Emery; his brother, Wilbur K. “Wib” Wilson; 3 sisters; Mary Elsie Criley, Dorothy McBride and Vera Lee Schmierbach.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his children; Gail Loucks of Du Quoin, IL, Myrtle (Jerry Wrenn) McCraw of Denison, TX and Kathy Sund of Apple Valley, CA; a special niece and nephew, Richard and Kathleen Bell of Waterloo, Il. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and other nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to New Athens Home for the Aged Activity Fund..

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL and again on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 9 to 11 a.m..There will be a VFW ritual held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL. Cleon’s grandson, Wayne Emery will be officiating the service. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    My deepest sympathy to the family of Cleon. I remember him well. Played with his kids many a day and visited their home. He was a good man and neighbor.
