Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Pigford, 59, of Sparta, IL; born February 18, 1964 to the late Norman and Marie (Korando) Poenitske; passed away Monday, July 17, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Cindy worked as a LPN at different long term care facilities in Freeburg, Belleville and Columbia. Her last job was as a Supervisor in Cape Albeon Assisted Living in Valley Park, MO. Cindy loved working in geriatrics because the elderly brought her so much joy. The grandchildren were the highlight of Cindy’s life. She loved to spoil them because when they were happy, it made Cindy happy. Some of her favorite hobbies were planting flowers in the yard and decorating the front porch for every holiday.
Cindy is survived by her loving husband – Tom Pigford of Sparta, IL to whom she married November 7, 2009 in Sparta, IL; one son – Lance Phelps of Waterloo, IL; two grandchildren – William Norman Phelps and Teagan Elizabeth Phelps; two stepsons – Nathan (Jenni Bornick) Pigford of Franklin, TN and Ryan (Stephanie) Pigford of Owensboro, KY; eight step grandchildren – Aidan Pigford, Hunter Pigford; Isaiah Pigford Jonathan Pigford, Otis Pigford, Augustus Reed, Thatcher Reed, Clementine Reed; three brothers – Gerald (Kathy) Poenitske of Walsh, IL, Gary Poenitske of Steeleville, IL, and John Poenitske of Percy, IL; two sisters – Donna (Dennis) Schilling of Taylorville, IL and Tammy (Brad) Hayes of Edinburg, IL; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters – Ruth Ederer and June Runge; nephew – Michael Poenitske; niece – Darla Ederer; great niece – Lydia Long.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Evansville, IL on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. The Memorial Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Father Iheme Iuvenis officiating. Committal Services will be held at St. Pius V Catholic Cemetery in Walsh, IL.

May you Rest In Peace my sweet friend! We had some good talks about this ole cancer thing which truly sucks but thanks for listening and talking about it with me. You fought a good fight which showed how strong of a woman you were. Prayers & Sympathy to your hubby, Lance and kiddos and all your family & friends! We’ll talk again some day. Love ya
