Charlotte was a dynamic, loving, caring person of her entire family. Her immediate
family was her life. She not only will be missed but those of us who knew and loved
her are truly saddened.
Charlotte J. Buchholz

Charlotte Jean Buchholz, nee Schaefer, 84, of New Athens, IL, passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2023 at the Freeburg Care Center in Freeburg, IL. Mrs. Buchholz was a homemaker but had also worked at area restaurants for several years. She was of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Buchholz was preceded in death by her parents – Charlie and Urva (Good) Schaefer, her husband – Louis Buchholz, whom she married on November 10, 1956 in E. St. Louis, IL and who passed away on March 28, 1993, daughter – Karen Sauerwein, brother – James Good, 2 grandsons – Joey Lawrence and Rodney Sauerwein, Jr., 1 granddaughter – Heather Foster and 1 great granddaughter – Kinkade Beck.
Charlotte is survived by three children – LouAnn (Don) Foster of Addieville, IL, Vernon Buchholz of Valmeyer, IL and Charles (Amanda) Buchholz of Columbia, two sisters – Arlene (Jim) Baum of Okawville, IL and Lois Brittin of Columbia, IL, son-in-law – Rodney Sauerwein of New Athens, IL, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday February 5, 2023 at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL.
No formal services will be held. After the visitation times, burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.
