Charles J. Schmidt, 86, of Marissa, IL, born January 30, 1937, in St. Louis, MO, passed away on Friday September 29, 2023, at Oak Hill Nursing Home in Waterloo, IL. Mr. Schmidt was a lifelong farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents – Charles F. and Marie (Moehlinhoff) Schmidt, his beloved wife – the former Janice J. Stunkel, whom he married on November 24, 1963, and who passed away on November 17, 2014, his brother and sister – Elmer Schmidt and Norma Lich and a nephew – Alan Schmidt.

Charles is survived by his son – Gary (Mindy) Schmidt of Waterloo, IL and 2 grandchildren – Isabella and Brayden Schmidt.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews – Rodney (Diane) Schmidt, Elmer (Lynn) Schmidt, Bobby (Kathy) Lich, Jeana Schmidt and Karen McCollum.

Memorials are encouraged to be made to Frieden’s UCC Church in Marissa, IL.

Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, and again on Thursday October 5, 2023, from 9 – 11 a.m., at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL.

Graveside services:  A prayer service will be held at the gravesite at Marissa TWP Cemetery in Marissa, IL following visitation on Thursday morning at the funeral home.
