Charles E. Geralds, 62, of Marissa, IL; born January 27, 1952 in Belleville, IL; passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Charley was a coal miner at River King #1 mine in Freeburg, IL until it closed. He then went on to drive a school bus for Marissa Unit District #40, worked for Diamond Comics in Sparta, IL and then Dolly Madison in Red Bud, IL. Charley served in the Army National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, gardening and pretty much anything outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Ervin and Elsie, nee Pflasterer, Geralds. One brother – Nick Geralds. Two sisters – Kathleen Johnson; Becky Harriman. His father-in-law – Leonard Sinn. Brothers-in-law – Roger Trentman and Norman “Butch” Harriman.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, nee Sinn, Geralds who was his high school sweetheart and who he married on June 20, 1970. His three children – Stacy (Tommy) Tucker of Geneva, OH; Shelly (Fred) Meister of Marissa, IL; Danny (Tomi White) of Marissa, IL. His five grandchildren – Charly Meister; Mitchel Quinn; Cutter Geralds; Adrian Quinn; Cooper Geralds. His six step-grandchildren – Caitlyn Tucker; Garett Tucker; Dylan Tucker; Brad White; Tristan White; Logan White. His brother – Bud Geralds. His sisters – Eileen Myers; Peggy Zacheis. Mother-in-law – Lorene Sinn. Brothers-in-law – Larry (Debi) Sinn; Loren (Laurie) Sinn; Dennis (Nicole) Sinn; Lennie (Kim) Sinn. Sisters-in-law – Mary Trentman; Joy Weber. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his two loyal companions Adolph and Bentley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
Visitation: Friends may call at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Funeral: Services will be held at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Donald Wagner officiating.
Interment: Burial will be held in the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.
