Charles Cathcart

Charles Joseph Cathcart, 82, of Marissa, IL; was born on August 4, 1931 in Randolph County, IL and passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the New Athens Home for Aged in New Athens, IL.

Mr. Cathcart was a coal miner and a crane operator. He was a member of the Marissa Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and trustee. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. Charlie greatly enjoyed woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents – James and Jessie, nee Short, Cathcart. One grandson – Shannon Cathcart. One granddaughter – Jody Lynn Demsar. One brother – Richard Cathcart. One sister – Olive Evans.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty, nee Sauerwein, Cathcart whom he married on April 28, 1956 in Marissa, IL. His children – Randy Cathcart of Marissa, IL; Debbie (Kevin) Demsar of Marissa, IL. His grandchildren – Ryan (Crystal) Cathcart of Marissa, IL; Kyle (Jen) Demsar of Marissa, IL; Jamie (Joe) Weihe of New Athens, IL. His great-grandchildren – Nolan Cathcart; Ashlynn Cathcart; Taylor Demsar; Kyler Demsar; Grady Weihe; Dory Weihe. One sister – Virginia Robinson of Ballwin, MO.

Memorials may be made to the Marissa Presbyterian Church.

Visitation: Friends may call from at Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, IL on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Funeral: Services will be held at the Marissa Presbyterian Church in Marissa, IL on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00am with Rev. James Ryan officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held in the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, IL.

    Very sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. He was such a nice man. I remember when Mike and I used to eat lunch at the diner in Tilden, and Charlie would always order a hamburger and a salad-no variations.
