Borden Leslie Hines, 73, of Watson, IL, formerly of Sparta, IL; born on March 29, 1950, in Chester, IL the son of Leslie George and Laveta Ida (Roots) Hines; passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Watson, IL at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was employed at World Color Press for 28 years and then worked at B and L Machine and Design for the remainder of his career. Borden was also a lifetime member of the Sparta Lions Club and Friday Night Group. His greatest joy was watching his grandsons fish and play baseball, and he also enjoyed sitting on his deck drinking a beer with his dog, watching the sunset.

He is survived by his wife – Barbara (Ledbetter) Hines of Watson, IL; two sons – Chad (Trisha) Hines of St. John, IN and Eric (Melissa) Hines of Columbus, OH; three grandsons – Brandon, Bryson, and Maverick Hines; one brother – Larry (Sona) Hines of Effingham, IL; one sister – Delana (Don) Gayvert of Arroyo Grande, CA; many nieces and nephews.

Borden was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Laveta Hines.

Visitation will be held at Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00p.m. and Friday, June 23, 2023, from 9:00 to 11:00a.m. The Sparta Lions Club will be performing memorial honors at 5:00p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, 2023, at 11:00a.m. with Richard McDaniel officiating. Committal services will be held at Union Cemetery in Sparta, IL.

Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    I am so sorry to hear about Borden’s death. I know his illness was extended and how hard you all worked for him to have some normal life. The last time I spoke to Borden was at the funeral home, and as always, he was his normal, goofy, irreverent self. I don’t remember a lot about that day, but I sure remember Borden. And it makes me laugh when I think of it. I know he will be missed. You all created a wonderful family together.
