Billie Louise Johnson

JOHNSON

Billie Louise Johnson, 95, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Sparta Community Hospital.  She was born to William J. and Edna (Melville) McMichael on April 1, 1928, in Sparta, Illinois.

Louise graduated from Sparta Township High School in 1945.  On October 15, 1949, she married C. Byron Johnson at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Sparta.  He preceded her in death.

Louise and Byron worked together for nearly 25 years as owners of Sparta Equipment Company.  After their business closed, she was bookkeeper for MedStar Ambulance for 16 years.

Louise was a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church where she taught a high school Sunday School class for many years.  She was an excellent seamstress and skilled knitter.  As a schoolgirl, Louise often won prizes at the Randolph County Fair for her handwriting, which remained beautiful up to a few weeks before her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother William James, and husband, Byron.

Louise is survived by her daughter Melanie of Sparta; cousin Karen Burget of Swansea; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service for both Louise & Byron will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mill Creek School Preservation Fund or to the Emery Cemetery Association.

Heil-Schuessler & Sinn Funeral Home in Sparta, IL is in charge of arrangements.
