Betty J. Powers, nee Creekpaum, 85, of New Athens, IL, born August 28, 1930 in Vergennes, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Elmwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Maryville, IL. Mrs. Powers worked as dietary coordinator at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Powers, Sr., who died on September 4, 1998, her parents; Theodore and Genevieve (Miller) Creekpaum, 1 son; Robert C. Powers, Jr, who died on December 12, 2014, 2 sisters; Margie Bushong and Kay Guy, and 3 brothers; Richard, Robert and Donald Creekpaum.
She is survived by 2 sons; Kevin (fiance’ Karen Buchanan) Powers of O’Fallon, IL and Larry (Diane) Goetz of New Athens, IL, 1 daughter; Betty Johnston of New Athens, IL; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Memorials in Betty’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
In keeping with Mrs. Powers’ wishes, cremation is to be held.
Visitation: No visitation times are scheduled.
Funeral; A family committal service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis is being planned.

When you think you will always be able to see someone and then find out they are gone….it really makes you reflect on the things you could have and should have done. We were so sorry to hear of Betty’s passing.
