Barton R. “Bart” Hood, 57, of Sparta, IL; born on February 22, 1965 the son of Jack and Pansy Mae (Been) Hood; passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at BJC-Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Bart loved his pets and was a huge supporter of the local animal shelters.Β  He worked at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years.Β  Bart was not only a nurse/caregiver, but he was devoted to helping anyone in need.Β  He was always the caring heart for those without a voice and could make you happy by his infectious smile.

He is survived by his Long-Life Partner – Phillip Meyer of Sparta, IL to whom he has shared a life of happiness with since May 28, 2003; three brothers – John (Linda) Hood of Sparta, IL, Robert (Joyce) Hood of Woodlawn, IL, and William Hood of Sparta, IL; one sister – Sue (Ronald) Wehrheim of Woodlawn, IL; many other relatives & friends.

Bart was preceded in death by his parents.

      I had a class with Bart at the vocational school our senior year. He always had a smile and was a blessing to be around. He will truly be remembered by his kindness.

    I’m so sorry to hear of Bart’s passing. We shared some laughs and I was able to see the side of him that was so compassionate about animals while I owned and managed Sparta Animal Clinic. Bart was a truly caring person…his heart was so loving and giving…and the animals recognized that in him, as well. We need more people in this world to be like that. RIP, my friend.

      What a truly kind and caring person of all living creatures. Bart was so full of life and could turn a bad moment into a joy of life. He will be missed by so many.My Mom Pat Smith(lunch lady) absolutely loved Bart and he made her day every time he saw her at Walmart. He was always a HAPPY full of life person that will be missed,NEVER forgotten
