Barbara L. Hodges

Barbara Louise Hodges, nee Bilderback, 86, of Marissa, IL, born February 14, 1936 in Sparta, IL, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2022 at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, IL.  Mrs. Hodges was a homemaker. She loved spending time dining with friends and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active with the Marissa Cub Scouts, Marissa Girl Scouts, Marissa DeMoley Mother Club (President) and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta, IL.

Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband – Edmond E. Hodges, daughter – Debra Lynn Hodges, parents – Samuel W. and Lucille (Welch) Bilderback, sister – Patsy Chloe Bilderback, and brothers – Samuel W. Bilderback, Jr. and James R. Bilderback.

Barbara is survived by her children – Stephen E (Nancy) Hodges of Marissa, IL, Connie (Martin) Smith of Mokena, IL, Natalie (Gary) Hand of Steeleville, IL, grandchildren – Jami (Jeff) Maier of Murfreesboro, TN, Weston (Tracey) Hand of of Shrewsbury, MO, Whitney (Archie) sauerheber of Cordyn,IN, Stephen Hand of Marissa, IL, Samuel (Katie) Hodges of Mt. Carmel, IL, Liam Smith of Mokena, IL, great grandchildren –  Brody Maier and Emily Maier of Murfreesboro, TN and Neil Sauerheber, Anna Sauerheber and Joel Sauerheber of Cordyn, IN and Charlotte Hand of Shrewsbury, MO.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta, IL

Visitation: Friends and family will be gathering from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday August 13, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta, IL

Funeral:  Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday August 13, 2022 at Calvary Baptist Church in Sparta, IL with Brother Tim McIntyre officiating.  Interment will follow services at Marissa TWP Cemetery in Marissa, IL.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.

    Just happened to run across this sad news. Barb will always be Jimmy’s sister to me. Many times Jimmy took me to her house to ask this or get that…and she never gave up on giving him the dickens if he was not being the brother she expected. So much love between those siblings. The Bilderback family will always hold a special place in my heart…Jimmy, Sammy, Barb…and especially mom, Lucile.
