Barbara J. Schatte

Barbara Jo Schatte, nee Nuernberger, 77, of New Athens, IL, born December 31, 1942 in New Athens, IL, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the New Athens Home for the Aged in New Athens. She was a homemaker but also had worked as a secretary and also in the cafeteria at New Athens School Dist. #60. Barbara was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL the church Women’s Guild and a life member of VFW Post 7710 Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Schatte was preceded in death by her parents; Silas C and Martha M (Langenstein) Nuernberger, 3 brothers; James, Donald and Andrew Nuernberger and sister; Doris Tiedemann.
Barb is survived by her husband; Dennis L Schatte of New Athens, IL, whom she married on September 29, 1962 at St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL, son Daniel Jon (Stephanie) Schatte of New Athens, IL, brother and sister-in-law; Dean (Marilyn) Schatte of New Athens, IL, 2 grandchildren; Brandon and Morgan Schatte and by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to be made to St. John United Church of Christ in New Athens, IL.

In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, a private family interment service will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in New Athens, IL.
Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in New Athens, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Barb was one of a kind. I was fortunate to have her as my aunt and god mother. She was a loving and kind woman to her family and community. Her spirit will live on in all she touched.
