Arthur Raymond Stowers

Arthur Raymond Stowers, 63, of Sparta, IL; born on August 29, 1958 in Old DuQuoin, IL, the son of Raymond “Joe Bob” and Sybil Louise Stowers; passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Arthur was a commercial truck driver for 34 years. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. In Arthur’s younger days he enjoyed going to Mary’s Creek to fish with his wife, Renate. They would sit on the muddy bank together and fish for hours, enjoying the time away from work. Arthur loved animals, especially his pet cat, Sugar. He was a man of faith and always put God first.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife – Renate (Sturber) Stower of Sparta, IL to whom he married on October 4, 1984 in Chester, IL; two daughters – Jane Boice of Steeleville, IL and Karen (Joel) Hepp of Steeleville, IL; six grandchildren – Michael (Christina) Downen of Jackson, MO, James (Christa) Boice of Pevely, MO, Dustin Boice of Steeleville, IL, Nicholas (Lindsey) Hudson of Carbondale, IL, Jaylynn Hepp of Steeleville, IL and Peyton Hepp of Steeleville, IL; six great grandchildren – Cristlyn Boice, Addy Boice, Caidyn Downen, Jaclyn Boice, Maxwell Hudson, and Norah Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers – Wayne Stowers and David Stowers; stepson – Brian McDonald; sons-in-law – Tom Boice and Mac McKinley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society or the American Legion Riders Club.

A celebration of life will be held at the Steeleville American Legion on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Military honors will be conducted by the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail and the American Legion Riders Club.
