Arlen LeRoy “Bucky” Walters

WALTERS
Arlen LeRoy “Bucky” Walters, 88, of Sparta, IL; born on February 13, 1935 in Young Hickory Township, IL, the son of Bernard and Bertha (Kinzer) Walters; passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023 at home.
Bucky served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963. He was always very athletic. During his time in the service, Bucky played baseball in Germany. He enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports over the years. If the Cubs were playing baseball, you could almost guarantee he had them on the television. Bucky was also an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his loving wife – Rose (Semande) Walters to whom he married on August 12, 1960 in Avon, IL; two children – Tina (Jim) Hillyard of Walsh, IL and Todd Walters of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren – Lyndsey (Tom) Tegethoff of St. Louis, MO, Jake Walters of St. Louis, MO and Payton Walters of St. Louis, MO; four great grandchildren – Ben, Matthew, Joey, and Kate Tegethoff; other relatives and friends.
Bucky was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Miller and Bertha Aldine (Kinzer) Walters.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Lincoln Cardinals Athletic Association

The Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Sparta, IL on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Leslie Chalupny officiating. Interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO at a later date.

In many people’s minds, including me, Bucky was the best all around athlete to graduate from Valley high school. He excelled in All sports and encouraged many of us to follow his outstanding example! RIP SIR!
