Almara A. Kinzel

Almara A., nee Lehr, Kinzel, 92, of Marissa, Illinois.  Born on May 19, 1931 in Johannisburg Township in Lively Grove, Illinois; Passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Illinois.

Mrs. Kinzel was a supply clerk at Sparta Community Hospital.  She was a member of the Women’s Guild of Trinity United Church of Christ in Biddleborn, Illinois and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary in New Athens, Illinois.  Almara loved to bake, was an avid card player and enjoyed quilting, dancing and enjoyed being the life of a good party.  Her greatest love was spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents – Adolph and Margaret, nee Kraus, Lehr.  Her husband – Melvin V. Kinzel whom she married on April 22, 1950 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Biddleborn, Illinois and who passed away on May 25, 2012.  One son – Lonnie E. Kinzel.  Two sisters and brothers-in-law – Lillian (Virgil) Triefenbach; Berniece (William) Galle.

She is survived by one son – Larry O. (Eva) Kinzel of New Athens, Illinois.  One daughter – Joann (Richard Brown) Emge of Nashville, Illinois.  Three grandchildren – Chad (Valerie) Kinzel; Daniel (Sara) Emge; Elizabeth (Christopher) Cassidy.  Six great-grandchildren – Jack Ryan Kinzel; Lily Ann Emge; Lucy Amelia Emge; Sadie Margaret Emge; James Daniel Cassidy; Anna King Cassidy.  One sister – Charlotte (Rob) Shaw of Freeburg, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or to the Health and Wellness Foundation of Sparta Community Hospital.

Visitation: Friends may call at Trinity United Church of Christ in Biddleborn, Illinois on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Funeral: Services will be held at Trinity United Church of Christ in Biddleborn, Illinois on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tarrah Vaupel officiating.

Interment: Burial will be held in the Marissa Township Cemetery in Marissa, Illinois.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home in Marissa, IL is in charge of arrangements.
