Alacyia Cevon “Lacy” Williams

Alacyia Cevon "Lacy" Williams

Alacyia “Lacy” Cevon Williams lived to be 23 years and 6 days young. Lacy was a resident of Tilden, IL for most of her life, and was born on Monday, October 2, 2000, in Sparta, IL, and passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, in Marissa, IL.

She is the daughter of Brandy Cavanaugh of Tilden, IL, and Derrick Williams, of Sparta, IL.

Alacyia graduated from Sparta High School in 2019. During her time as a bulldog she was the 2018-2019 homecoming queen, and a Sparta High School cheerleader all 4 years.  Lacy had a heart of gold and was admired by everyone for her ability to adapt to a world that isn’t designed for people in chairs, and to oftentimes do so with a smile that could emit enough energy to light up any room, and any world…or with an eye roll and a huff before she pushed one anyway.  Miss Lacy began working at Sparta Lincoln School during the 2022-2023 school year; spending her time getting to know, advocate for, support, and to truly show love for every kid that was open to her seemingly endless supply of love, hugs, surprises, lessons, and smiles.  Lacy stayed on the go and had an adventurous spirit that she took with her everywhere she went.  She formed friendships that pushed past what a typical friendship could provide — genuine community, peers that actually understood what she was going through, and people that strive for lives that showcase that they are not wheelchair bound, and rather boundless; her “Wheelie Friends.”

We, her siblings and parents, will always have endless love for the wheel friends she met whether online, in group, or at divine randomness.  We will always be grateful for organizations such as DASA, MWDSA, the Rollettes, and ParaQuad for the variety of opportunities, activities, and access that Lacy had to trying various adaptive sports, while allowing her to meet additional wheel friends in the St. Louis and southern Illinois region, throughout the country, and around the world keeping her mindful of all she could still do, become, and how she could live a fulfilling life while even in Wheelliams, her chair.

Lacy is survived by loved ones including her mother – Brandy Cavanaugh of Tilden, IL; father – Derrick Williams of Sparta, IL; step father – Alvin Young;  two sisters – Alexis Williams-Cavanaugh of St. Louis, MO, and Allah Young of Tilden, IL; three brothers – Derrick Williams of Sparta, IL, Damien Ortiz of Chicago, IL, and Macen Harris of Collinsville, IL; grandparents – Pam (Noal) LaRoe of Tilden, IL, and Gary (Kim) Smith of Sparta, IL; three aunts – Candice Williams of Coulterville, IL, Mandy Smith of Belleville, IL, and Christie Williams of Sparta, IL; uncle – David Williams of Sparta, IL; as well as a niece and nephew of Chicago, IL; “nephdog” – Grei “Tooter” of Tilden, IL.

Alacyia is additionally survived by numerous relatives including many cousins who she loved immensely, and often viewed as siblings.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents – Carrie and Larry Williams, two of her paternal uncles – Reginald Williams and Larry Williams, Jr., and her Momo – Helen Rothwell.

We will never stop missing her, loving her, and wishing she would come home.

Memorial contributions are greatly appreciated, and may be made to Lacy’s mother, Brandy Cavanaugh.
